The word Cool
I read Dermot's first entry in his Cloggernaugh West Diaries and uttered "Cool!" out loud. My 8 years old son was sitting next to me, and said "Why do you speak in English?"
That made me smile.
So, when I speak in my native tongue, I don't use the word "cool". That is a pretty big deal, because the word "cool" is one of those international words. In German, for example, it is used a lot!
So, I asked him, what do we say instead of "cool"? He thought about it and gave me the following answers (here translated into English for your convenience):
I thought his observation was pretty cool (ha ha ha), so there you go.

Interesting
Pretty
Good thinking!

Alright
Very good!
Fascinating
Excellent
Well done!

Re: The word Cool
It is definitely one of words that are overused. But, this word expresses an interesting phenomenon. Because of its many possible connotations, as the word can be used for style, attitude, concept, pose, approach...this word is a very good example for that how much is important who is the person who uses words. Not only that the vocabulary is something very personal, be it rich or poor, but even the same word by different people get many nuances of meaning depending on the way how it is used.
If it would be possible to reduce language to only one word, even then the beauty of communication will depend on the beauty of the soul who uses it.
The silence is different between two people depending how they are. I heard once very interesting statement: “You are silent aggressively” or another " Even when silent we understand each other".

In our class too it has become a topic again and some of us are trying to use other words instead..so that the german language doesn't die off (=

Ohhhh... that is such gorgeous, joyous news!!!
Thank you so much for sharing that... seriously!
Hearing that made me feel intensely elated.
By the way, I needed the right word to describe how I feel and happy didn't seem like enough, so I looked it up and so came up with elated. :)
elated
–adjective
very happy or proud; jubilant; in high spirits.
