The Shape of Time

Musings on a Rainy Afternoon"
I share your final conclusion that path and tree define the shape of time the best. I think it is more the tree than the path as the branches of tree symbolizes the concept of interconnectedness of all life on our planet.
If we suppose that awareness of time is related to life itself, then again tree seems to be the most appropriate symbol for time as well.
That is why it is the eternal theme or motif in various world mythologies, philosophies and theologies, even science.
