Ryan's Famous Ginger Drink
ou take about 200 grams (7 ounces) of fresh ginger- (I would say root but it has been explained to me it is actually the stem even though it is beneath the soil)
lice it as thin as you can without hurting yourself- (I would suggest avoiding the use of machines to slice the ginger as the residual energy flowing into the product I believe to be as important as the actual contents of the drink...so don't make it when you are angry or in a bad mood)
oss the slices in a pot and boil it- (How long? It doesn't matter, I basically boil it until the color is nice and dark and the clarity is pretty foggy. Just keep refilling the pot as the water boils out...it's nice aroma therapy too.)
queeze a Lime- (Or a lemon and put half the juice in the container you intend to keep the ginger concentrate. I use 1 .75 liter white wine bottle with screw caps per 200 grams of ginger.)
train the ginger from the Liquid- (I strain the slices out of the ginger concentrate while straining the smaller particles at the same time by using a piece of thin linen between the strainer and the pot I am pouring it into.)
ill your container and let cool- (Then refrigerate.)
You can certainly play around with the concentrate and develop your own drinks. I pour about 3 cm (1 inch) of ginger concentrate in the bottom of a glass. One third of that amount I add an alps herb syrup, mainly for color and as a bit of a sweetener. The rest is usually mineral water, but I like to add half beer, half mineral water from time to time.
You can do what ever with the rest of the ginger. I plan on drying some out and grinding it into a powder for other things as well. Below are some supposed medicinal benefits of ginger... judge for yourself.
Different studies have found that ginger could help block the body's vomit reflex and therefore be a natural motion sickness treatment. They say 1/4 a teaspoon of ginger 20 minutes before traveling can provide up to 4 hours of relief. You could also make a ginger tea and sip as needed during the trip.
Other researchers have said to have found that ginger can treat the inflammation of blood vessels in the brain that cause migraines. They say to take 1/3 teaspoon of ginger powder when you feel the migraine coming on and it should help stop the pain before it starts. The same researchers also suggest a cup of ginger tea made from 1/2 teaspoon of ginger to relief arthritis pain.
Some say a ginger tea is a nice treatment for heartburn.
Also that it can help as well as vitamin B6 against morning sickness.
Anyway, enjoy and if you have any feedback as a result of this recipe please feel free to post it under this topic.

Here is a bit of added information I came across (today).
According to herbalist Christopher Hobbs certain herbs are more potent in tincture than in capsules or teas. Your Ginger recipe is neither a tea nor does it come from capsules, but I think this information is still worth sharing.
It is supposedly more likely to get the active ingredients from these herbs when you use alcohol-based tinctures. Those herbs are:
• Dong quai (Angelica sinensis)
• Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
• Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis)
• Kava (Piper methysticum)
• Milk thistle (Silybum marianum)
• Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens)
• Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
I love your Ginger drink, and can drink mass amounts of it daily, and I have never tried any alcohol-based Ginger drink.. it might be worth a try, like variations of the original recipe.

Hi,
Thank you for this recipe. I love it. I drink it with such a pleasure like I have never drunk any other drink. It is delicious and brings me in a very good mood raising my energy.
I agree with you Sabina, it would be interesting to try some variations. Have you already tried any of them, Ryan? Considering your original recipe and how much I like it, I would gladly hear if you experimented further?

No further experimentation as of yet. I was given a cook book as a Christmas present and so my experimenting time in the kitchen has been on different foods and tastes rather than around ginger.

Hi Ryan,
I do hope that we here shall be touched by this new magic from your kitchen after a while...?
What has always attracted my attention were different ways of bread making. I shall open a new topic about bread hoping that you will also give us there some of good recipes.

Will it help my vertical leap so I don't trip over the lines in the court?

LOL!!
Maybe..., there is something called "figging". You ever heard of it? It is where they put ginger in a horse's butt to get it to hold its tail up. You never know... it might help put a little more bounce in your step...

Also there is always "bricking"...... like the camel bought from a used camel dealer that was guaranteed to get 100 miles per pint of water......when customer brought Camel back to complain he was only getting 50 miles per pint, dealer said...."you just have to "brick" him...... whats that says customer......you get behind camel with two bricks and slam them together really hard on camel's private "parts" and he will go as guaranteed.
Customer says.....Doesn't that hurt? Camel dealer says......"Not if you hold your thumbs right."
