Deep Spirits

I sometimes call people freaks. When I do it is always meant as a compliment. However, as I am aware that that title can be taken in different ways, I thought it might be interesting to explore alternatives to the word freak.

So, suggestions please!

I mean it genuinely.

I have a near collection of atleast a thousand freak badges. (not literally, that's what they prefer calling me AND I am very happy, some have called me negative and some weird)

But thumbs up to Freak.

It is that very word chosen to describe people who cannot be gauged emotionally nor instinctively. It is the very thoughtful title given to people who are also know as 'beserkers'.

Another word! Bravo!

So Maheep would you say the word "freak" cannot be replaced nor improved upon?

I think a berserker from the German myth could do a better job, but its not fitting.

'Freak' is an honorary title.. so the new word has some big shoes to fill.

I say why replace freak? I don't think you can find any word that someone wouldn't, at some point, find offense with. Some people resent being called friend. It becomes a negative, and they thing, "Oh, what do you mean by that?" You're thinking, I meant it as a compliment, but oh well.

I use the word punk the same way you use freak. Anytime I use it, anyone I use it with, it's meant as a very nice thing, a definite term of endearment. I've called my nieces that since they were wee toddlers. Now, if I were to stop, simply never call them that, I have no doubt they would get suspicious. "What's wrong, David? Did I do something wrong; you don't call me punk anymore." I think it started, me calling people punk as endearment, with my nieces, but grew to include anyone special to me. I could explore why, but that would be a much longer post.

I say stick with freak. If someone doesn't like it, they don't deserve to be called freak. C'mon, I dare ya, punk!

I use the word crazy with deeply positive and compliment conotation.- When I say that to somebody it means that the person is freak and punk in a cool way.
One crazy man said:"If someone doesn't like it, they don't deserve to be called freak". I like this and agree with him. So, if someone doesn't like to be called crazy by me, it will only mean that s/he doesn't deserve to be called crazy...by me.
