Deep Spirits

When talking you can stubbornly repeat the same thing over and over or you can discuss in a more creative manner and illustrate your point through a parable, a metaphor, an allegory or an anecdote.
Which is what?

parable –noun
1. a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson.
2. a statement or comment that conveys a meaning indirectly by the use of comparison, analogy, or the like.

metaphor –noun
1. a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, as in “A mighty fortress is our God.”
2. something used, or regarded as being used, to represent something else; emblem; symbol.

allegory –noun
1. a representation of an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material forms; figurative treatment of one subject under the guise of another.
2. a symbolical narrative

anecdote –noun
a short account of a particular incident or event of an interesting or amusing nature, often biographical.

This is a good reminder, Sabina. It wouldn't be bad to keep it as such on the table before starting any discussion.
I prefer stories as a helper for explaining something which deserves to be pointed out. Especially in the hard time when discussion is threatened by personal emotional involvement and the participants are at the edge of tolerance, story is the great tool to balance things and bring them back to the topic instead to allow swimming in mutual accusations.
Stories are great to come to so called "aha moment" realizing the point, as stories are free of any personal connotation.

No doubt, these are great and powerful ways to try and convey meaning to somebody who does not seem to understand a point or issue and you would like to help them to re-eaxmine the meaning of something in a new or different light.
