You mean you never had one of those?
I know some people who crave chalk... as food... stranger things have happened.

Re: Cravings
I hear it's an ageless phenomenon.
I was actually curious to find out more and here are the results of my findings...
"Some people believe this is to satisfy the body's subconscious need for some trace mineral deficiency. The exact cause is unknown but it may well be related to hormonal changes."
and
"This is more often seen in early childhood, but can occur later if there are psychological problems or anxieties."
So much for craving chalk.

Re: Cravings
Craving chalk...hmm
I used to have such craving during my pregnancy, both times. The time back it was almost impossible for me to control this craving. When I asked the reason, I have got some mineral supplements and the problem came under the control. Still, that time someone has told me what psychological problem stays behind this and it sounded logical back then to me. Today I cannot remember what that was.
If I remember I shall report it...
If you crave: Sugar
What you really need is: Vitamin B
Where to find it: Dry yeast, integral rice and wheat, oats flour, peanuts, lot of vegetables, milk, bran...
Sugar eats Vitamin B, as more sugar as more one needs Vitamin B .
Good topic Sabina and very nice idea how to present it. Inspiring...

Re: Cravings
Great topic, but...
If you crave salty foods - raw goat milk.
I knew it was good to keep goats in the living room. They come in handy when you need some salty food. Great advice, I'll go and get some milk from Sally immediately *chases his goat in the living room with a bucket in his hand*
Couldn't help it, sorry :D
But honestly, great topic. It's interesting to see what alternatives I could use to satisfy some cravings. But chocolate is chocolate :P And cigarettes are cigarettes :P

Craving and addiction are a choice

In that sense pain is pain, misery is misery, apathy is apathy...
We are talking about signs our body sends to us. We can recognize these signs and try change things, as signs are the information you need a change, otherwise it weren´t craving.
One can of course choose to keep whatever state is there, but new signs will come...
Cigarettes are a kind of addiction. And addictions again are signs that something is missing there which needs a substitute. So, one can decide to keep that what is missing, or to change the situation discovering what that is, which means to move toward changes...

Re: Cravings
Our body sends us signals on what we need and as a result we crave something... by giving the body what it needs the craving should stop.
Things that are addictive in nature are a different category all together.
The only reason why I even included the Tobacco was because I thought it might be helpful information if someone actually wants to quit smoking. In that sense knowing what the alternatives are can help, strictly on a physical level.
As for goats in the living room, sometimes it's hard to resist.. I know David, I feel the same way quite often.
