Closed Lips and Open Hearts

I came across these words....
"Never close your lips to those
whom you have opened your heart."
Charles Dickens
I really liked it so I went to find out from which book or story it is from, and found this:
"To conceal anything from those to whom I am attached, is not in my nature. I can never close my lips where I have opened my heart."
The first and widely spread quote is in commandment form while the original quote is of a character expressing their personal opinion, about themselves.
What are your thoughts on this discrepancy?

The first quote, although signed by his name, sounds as a description of an original quote. Being that it has lost the message of the original. At least, this is my understanding.
I like very much the original quote and it is great that you was curious to find out from where it comes.
Being a master of words, it is so logical to have this sentence in his work. I agree with that and behave accordingly in my life. I could never understand that people have emotions of any kind, but not a need to express them.
