Your Favorite Unknown or Little Know Bands
I love to find new music. For me, discovering a new group is like finding a treasure. I thought that perhaps if we all post some music from our personal "unknown" favorites, everyone will get a chance to discover something they like.
I'll begin with one of my favorite bands of all time, Woven Hand.
Horse Head
Come to my house an we'll pick bones
There hands outside ready with stones
Come to my yard
I got whiskey an chairs
We'll sit on the porch
As the good men stare
You ain't never spoke true
I shake an angry fist at you
You are not needed here
To help me feel low down
I'm doin' it fine all on my own
I hear you cryin' from cradle to coffin
An for you there'll be no stoppin'
I see you lyin' in a pine box with bitter words
That's how the boy talks

Very nice Tim!
I completely concur with your sentiment. I feel the same way when I hear something new that I like.
I'm not sure what exactly qualifies as "unknown" though, because I know various music that you, and other here, would call foreign and it would probably be unknown to you as well. Does that count?
Here is a couple of songs by Djordje Balasevic (actually spelled Đorđe Balašević).
His songs are highly poetic and the lyrics are very important, so I am not sure how this sounds to someone who doesn't understand the language.
D-Moll

Here is a little bit about him, taken from Wikipedia:
Songs of Đorđe Balašević can be divided into 3 groups:
Songs of the first group are marked by nostalgia and are saturated in gentle moods. He was influenced by poets such as his native Mika Antić and songwriter Arsen Dedić, the indebtedness to the latter being credited openly and acknowledged by Balašević himself ("I am an Arsen-addict"). These are the songs for which he is most famous, and which take up the best part of his concert repertoire.
His politically engaged songs deliver the message of pacifism and tolerance, so he is often "accused" of yugonostalgia. Balašević was against the Yugoslav wars and was often accused of being pro-Croatian and pro-Bosnian, causing even threats from the government; this caused him to stop writing and performing almost completely in the 1990s.
He is famous for having dabbed in many different musical genres, doing it as a kind of a challenge. His songs include blues, country, folk, ethno, rap, tango, reggae, dixie, march, rock songs, and his trademark - ballads. He has been deemed by many to be more of a poet than a singer. He is also keen on having members of his band use as many different instruments as possible, giving each of the songs a special touch.
- • Emotional songs (love songs and songs filled with nostalgia)

• Humoristic songs

Re: Your Favorite Unknown or Little Know Bands
Sabina, I really like both the songs by Balasevic! I wish I knew what the lyrics meant. I think that posting songs that may not be in a language common to everyone is fine. For me, it just makes me realize how much of a song is conveyed by the instrumentation, tempo, tone of the singers voice, etc. So I think we should take a very inclusive approach when deciding what to post. That should make it even more fun....When in doubt - put it out there!
Here's another one. The bands name is Tarkio. The violin [or maybe it is a viola] conveys such a sense of yearning.
Standing Still - Tarkio
An eight ball
Two in all
Is how I measure the length that I must go
To outrun you standing still
A soft flight
And such delight
A nervous gesture that dropped me to my knees
Now I wonder where you are tonight
A hard fall
And through it all
I never felt so callous
A cut sleeve
And to believe
And once again I walked home alone
This old world counts for nothing
I did all I could do
Now I won't accept your blessing
On this, our final night
Won't live to see the light
Of morning
So I cling to apron strings
As I recall my father's dying words
"Some girls are sweet, some girls are wicked"
From this tree comes an ill-bred seed
An ugly cloister of flat foot bookish boys
Who'd as soon kick you as kiss you

mercy of maria - midnight choir
As I scream out of lust
At the moon for someone to touch me
As I fail to please
What the moon won`t ease
I can`t sit still from running wild
As I wipe my past
For something good to last
As demons are crawling under my skin
As I walk away
There`s nothing to do but pray
That Maria will take me in her arms
At the mercy of Maria
Will I lay my aching head
At the mercy of Maria
Will I find my resting place
At the mercy of Maria
Will I lay my aching head
At the mercy of Maria
Will I find my resting place
There`s nothing to do but pray

Very nice topic.
I like very much all your choices Tim. They could be mine.
And this D-Moll, Sabina, wow, it is for the soul, like D moll is.
These are my five cents, some of my favorites from Eurovision Song Contest:
2004
Zeljko Joksimovic and Ad Hoc orchestra - Lane moje - The song came on the 2nd place after a great competition with Ukraine.(Eurovision Song Contest 2004)
2005
Boris Novković - Vukovi Umiru Sami, (Eurovision Song Contest 2005 - Croatia)
2006
Hari Mata Hari, Representing de Bosnia & Herzegovina , (Eurovision Song Contest 2006)
2007
Marija Serifovic , Prayer, The Winner on Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki - 2007.
and in English

Sabina, Your response is exactly the reason that I started this post!
I believe that music touches and connects people in a way that nothing else can. And when people have a similar reaction to a piece of music, they somehow understand each other in a way that transcends the intellect.
So when I share music with someone that they have not heard before, and they love it, I feel like we somehow know each other a little better.

Tim, I agree completely. Music cuts through borders, languages, and all differences to show a love we all share. I'm not sure what to say about this song except I can't stop listening to it. I love the play of the two voices singing, and the lyrics are very telling, as well.
Dead Hearts by Stars
Tell me everything that happened
Tell me everything you saw
They had lights, inside their eyes
They had lights, inside their eyes
Did you see the closing window
Did you hear the slamming door?
They moved forward and my heart died
They moved forward and my heart died
Please please tell me what they looked like
Did they seem afraid of you?
They were kids that I once knew
They were kids that I once knew
I can say it but you won't you believe me
You say you do but you don't deceive me
It's hard to know they're out there
It's hard to know that you still care
I can say it but you won't you believe me
You say you do but you don't deceive me
Dead hearts are everywhere
Dead hearts are everywhere
Did you touch them
Did you hold them
Did they follow you to town?
They make me feel I'm falling down
They make me feel I'm falling down
Was there one you saw too clearly
Did they seem too real to you?
They were kids that I once knew
They were kids that I once knew
I can say it but you won't you believe me
You say you do but you don't deceive me
It's hard to know they're out there
It's hard to know that you still care
I can say it but you won't you believe me
You say you do but you don't deceive me
Dead hearts are everywhere
Dead hearts are everywhere
I can say it but you won't believe me
You say you do but you don't deceive me
It's hard to know they're out there
It's hard to know that you still care
I can say it but you won't you believe me
You say you do but you don't deceive me
Dead hearts are everywhere
Dead hearts are everywhere
They were kids that I once knew
They were kids that I once knew
Now they're all dead hearts to you
Now they're all dead hearts to you
They were kids that I once knew
They were kids that I once knew
Now they're all dead hearts to you
Now they're all dead hearts to you

Mirjana, Thanks for postings these beautiful songs. I especially like the song by Marija Serifovic - Prayer...very moving!

Here a little-known song called Dramamine. It just has a hypnotic quality to it that seems to stir some long-forgotten mood.
