Without Action

Postby Sabina » Tue Jan 19, 2010 3:43 am

The Tao Te Ching has a large number of beautiful passages, full of wisdom.
This particular one has left me slightly baffled though:

Not praising the worthy prevents contention,
Not esteeming the valuable prevents theft,
Not displaying the beautiful prevents desire.

In this manner the sage governs people:
Emptying their minds,
Filling their bellies,
Weakening their ambitions,
And strengthening their bones.

If people lack knowledge and desire
Then they can not act;
If no action is taken
Harmony remains.

So... lacking knowledge and desire is a good thing?

If there is lack of knowledge and desire, people are in flow with life like it is which means they take it as it comes, which is faith. Who is able to be like that, such one is not in the game of control, and without control, harmony remains.

Ok, nice answer.
But, does that mean...

If people have knowledge and desire
Then they can act;
If action is taken
Harmony disappears

Lacking knowledge and desire could be good or bad thing, the same as if people have knowledge and desire.
Then it shows how one uses tools one has.
Can be for destruction because of not knowing for better, or making such a choice with a knowledge, or it could be use to harmonize self and the world around in both cases.
Being humble without is the same like being humble with
If one is humble...

:)
So... we can then conclude that the key to harmony is humbleness, and that sounds quite true to me.

I agree Sabina. Then it leads to the logical question what we consider that the word humble means, or at least for us personally.

Friends: I thank God for permitting me to make mistakes because I can
learn for them = but i learned long ago what ignorant and stupid means
ignorant MEANS i DO NOT KNOW this or that

stupid means I KNOW it BUT I STILL do things that will HARM ME
or make the same mistakes over and over again.

But I love to make statement of my belief s mistakes so here goes ONCE AGAN:

DESIRE IS WHAT OPERATES THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.
My friend George will shout fast that i am wrong SITTING ROCKS DESIRE TO REMAIN
unmoving and MOVING rocks DESIRE to continue to move = JUST an example
of my belief that DESIRE operates the entire universe.

my point is we humans WOULD still be whereever or whatever WE WERE
a million years ago = if we had NO DESIRES.
