The Seven Hermetic Principles

Postby Sabina » Sun Feb 14, 2010 11:10 am

"The Principles of Truth are Seven; he who knows these,
understandingly, possesses the Magic Key before whose
touch all the Doors of the Temple fly open.
~The Kybalion (Hermetic Text of Gnostic Wisdom )

The Seven Hermetic Principles, upon which the entire Hermetic Philosophy is based, are as follows:

    1. Principle of Mentalism
      "THE ALL IS MIND; The Universe is Mental."
    2. Principle of Correspondence
      "As above, so below; as below, so above."
    3. Principle of Vibration
      "Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."
    4. Principle of Polarity
      "Everything is Dual; everything has poles;
      everything has its pair of opposites;
      like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature,
      but different in degree;
      extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths;
      all paradoxes may be reconciled.
    5. Principle of Rhythm
      "Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides;
      all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in
      everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the
      measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.
    6. Principle of Cause and Effect
      "Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause;
      everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name
      for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation,
      but nothing escapes the Law.
    7. Principle of Gender
      "Gender is in everything;
      everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles;
      Gender manifests on all planes.
"Whether You believe you can, or you can't, you are right."

Interesting topic, Sabina.
People often talk about Universal Laws. For Deepak Chopra there are seven such laws. Some other peole mention much more Spiritual or Universal Laws.
Recently in one discussion a friend, who is shaman presented shaman's Universal Laws or Principles:
Everything is Alive.
Everything has its own spirit or energetic signature. From this
principle we learn to observe and pay attention to everything around
us. We strive to see things as they are and learn their true nature.
To explore the experience of energetic observation one practices the
shaman's art of “seeing”.

Everything is Conscious.
Everything has its own form of conscious awareness. From this
principle we learn to be present and to enter into true dialogue with
the unseen forces around us. We actively engage spirit and energetic
forms. To alter our consciousness and attune to spirit one practices the
shamanic art of journeying.

Everything is Dynamic.
It is the nature of things to move, change and transform. The shaman
knows that where there is movement, there is health. Where energy
cannot move there is illness. From this principle we learn to be
flexible. We learn to sense the movement of energy and when it is
blocked. One uses the shamanic art of shape-shifting to learn to
move energies; not by mastering them but by merging with them.

Everything is Connected.
Everything exists in relationship to everything else. From this
principle we learn to be respectful and we come to understand sacred
reciprocity and the healing power of relationship. To achieve balance
and harmony to our relationships one merges with love itself.

Everything Responds.
The universe responds to our most powerful intentions. From this
principle we learn to be clear and to engage the world with focused and
efficient acts. One serves the unseen universe by bringing beauty into
the seen universe. Bridging the waking and dreaming worlds is the art of

I thought it could be metioned here.
