The eye of the beholder
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" has more than the one meaning that is classically assigned to this expression.
Typically it refers to outer beauty, either in regards to humans or things, or their 'style' preferences, but it is also a choice in life. I choose to see beauty in whatever I can.
That doesn't mean that beauty is all that surrounds me. It doesn't mean that I am blind nor ignorant of the other things, and it doesn't mean that I will not address these things or do something about them.
It does mean however that I will try to see the beauty as well.
I will not allow temporary ugliness or a distortion to blind me nor change who I am.
I am beauty and creation.
Not because I am beautiful and creative, but because I choose those things to be my focus.
That is sometimes the easiest thing in the world, most of the times it just comes naturally, but at other times it seems impossible, at least for a fleeting moment, right before I do it, and then that seemingly impossible moment is in the past, while the beauty is there to stay.

FORCE OF CHOICE
As the shadow of the trees
Calms and stimulates feelings;
May your heart be the tree.
As food prepared by parents
Brings happy children by the table;
May your hand be the parent.
As all life is looking forward
To the coming spring;
May yours be open to changes.
As you believe in your words
When wishing good wishes,
May your words be your thoughts.
As understanding brings peace
Into your soul,
May your soul be understanding.
As a dog trusts the hand
That feeds and caresses it
May your giving be your choice.
