Take a walk...........

Postby dermot » Sun Jan 31, 2010 11:30 pm

You need to get away. You take a scarf and warm jacket, and pausing to look up at the starry sky in wonder, you begin to walk.
The night is cold and you hug your self as you walk to keep warm, the cold breeze on your face heightens the impression of wonder that began in appreciation of the star laden sky. The narrow country road winds upwards above the town below, distant light comes from the few houses along the way.
You close your eyes in peace, feeling so alone and at one with the breeze, the stars, and the winding path. The road meanders a little and levels out, in the middle distance you can hear the sound of a stream and you know you are near the little hilltop lake.
It sits before you now, the moon and stars reflected in its darkness. One side is shaded where overhanging rock throws shadow on shimmering light.

There is an oak tree, a bench, and an old boat.......................

=0o what do you do next?????????????

A blissful moment of being

Postby mirjana » Mon Feb 01, 2010 11:29 am

My thoughts are swinging between oak tree and a bench. I first stand for a while under the tree watching the calming beauty of a lake and enjoying the peaceful feeling that it awakes in me, and a bit later I sit for a while on the bench holding this whole moment as long as I can stand the coldness of the night. Then, after refreshing my batteries, I turn back the same way I came, warming my body with fast walking.

The bench looks cold and the boat looks old, so I decide to climb up the oak tree.
It's not that I am prone to climbing trees lately, but something about this night awakens bygone memories and as that thought crosses my mind the cold breeze doesn't feel so cold anymore.

The oak turns out to be one of those perfect climbing trees. I climb a few meters off the ground and slide across one of the heavier branches, ending up right above the old boat. I look across the silky lake and then back at the boat. Observing it from straight above it I would never describe it as old, but rather of character. The thought crosses my mind that someone has spent so many hours in this boat that a part of their soul stayed in it.
The unlikely notion instantly gives me chills, for me often a sign that an idea or a conclusion is true.
I stay on top of the tree for a few more moments admiring the surrounding beauty and then make my way back down and to the boat. I enter it carefully, and against my common judgment. It not being my boat would usually be reason enough to discourage me from touching it, much less from climbing inside.

For me, the bench was never a consideration, climbing a ways in the tree was appealing at first thought but on further consideration I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't be able to get comfortable like I would have been able to several years earlier. So my thoughts leaned more to lying beneath the tree and just closing my eyes and taking in the cool night air and sounds... but then it came to me!! To kick back in the boat and do the same but with the possible added bonus of being gently rocked by the lake.

The moon threw shadows across the lake as i guided the boat through the dark star dappled water. As i watched as a light briefly illuminated the darkness, smiling i guided the boat toward the little island hidden by darkness.
She stood, like a ghost in a white fog, motionless and dreamy.

Going up a hill, all alone, on a cold, dark night doesn't seem reasonable to me.
The description is nice, the starry sky seems appealing, but I wouldn't be brave enough to go up on my own. Would that matter if somebody I love came up with me?

What if you had a lantern or a bright Flash light with you?
Would it make you more comfortable in going up the hill?

In the physical world a flashlight wouldn't make me feel more comfortable so as to go up the hill.
In the spiritual world, yes!

Ok, in that case feel free to take someone you love along with you, up the hill.

You can certainly tell me to go take a hike if you don't want to talk about it, but I am very curious as to what exactly you imagine could be along the path for which you might need someone with you... Is it as you mentioned on the fear topic? A dog, or a wolf... or is it something else? I just thought that since you mentioned it you probably don't have problem talking about it.
