Music to bleed with

Postby Agate » Sun Jun 27, 2010 3:47 am

I thought about posting some of these under angry, but they don't quite fit. Some are angry, but most are just about hurt in all it's many flavors. For the times when normal words won't suffice to express a soul-wound, I offer these songs. (And as an aside, it was hard to just choose two off of the Toad the Wet Sprocket album "Fear", 'cause it was my go-to for musical emoting since it came out in the 90's. Pick a song on it, and it could fit on this list!)

Runaway Train by Soul Asylum

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls

Everybody Hurts by REM (Original music video)

Stories I Tell by Toad the Wet Sprocket

Something to Say by Toad the Wet Sprocket
Everyone's got a tale to tell,
I know I'm not the first, or last but somewhere in-between;
Not best but not the worst.

Nice one, Agate. Love how you say, "...but most are just about hurt in all it's many flavors. For the times when normal words won't suffice to express a soul-wound, I offer these songs." Yes, I can think of a couple I use for just that purpose.

Alice in Chains -- Rooster

Pink Floyd -- The Final Cut

"Through the fish-eyed lens of tear-stained eyes...."

Beck -- Lost Cause

Portishead -- Roads

Ryan Adams -- Please Do Not Let Me Go

Eels -- Susan's House

My best friend was named Susan; she's been dead for three years. I wish I could go over to Susan's house.

Hold On -- Sarah McLachlan

"Sometimes you do it to save your own life, not anybody else's. That's mostly why I write. I'm not trying to change anybody else's life or the world; I'm trying to keep from blowing my own brains out. That's the real point." -- Guy Clark

Lucinda Williams - World Without Tears [great live version]

Bush - Glycerine (acoustic)

The Cure - Maybe Someday

Sun Kil Moon - Blue Orchids [a heartbreaking song]

The ancient streets so crowded and narrow
The winding stairs climb up, up high
The air tonight hangs sour and heavy
I'm dying up here love, lie with me lie

The view electrical and sprawling
The city lights move out and on and on
Out there in the halo of the skyline
My guardian angel looks down upon me

Fall tonight sweet Paris Rain
Shower me in her warm kisses

A burning star over long lost highways
My fallen love died so young
And all the gifts you gave I have them
And all your love I'm still holding onto

She rides the halo of the skyline
My fallen sister died so young
Our last goodbye I wanted to be there
To bathe the loss from your fading eyes

Close these sweeping long gray curtains
The dizzying spiraling heights

Soft light pours into the room
Fingers glide over my face
A voice speaks, a figure moves
How could I walk these old dim halls again
How could I leave this room all alone

When she comes by every morning
Brings back pink and pale blue orchids
When she comes by every afternoon
Piano music weeps quietly
As May melts into June
When she comes by every evening
Lays down beside me softly breathing

One of my all time favorite REM songs

This flower is scorched
This film is on
On a maddening loop
These clothes
These clothes don't fit us right
I'm to blame
It's all the same
It's all the same

You come to me with the phone in your hand
You come to me with your hair curled tight
You come to me with positions
You come to me with excuses
Decked out in a robe
You wear me out
You wear me out

We've been through fake-a-breakdown
Self hurt
Plastics, collections
Self help, self pain,
EST, psychics, fudge ⊗ all
I was central
I had control
I lost my head
I need this
I need this
A paper weight, junk garage
Winter rain, a honey pot
Crazy, all the lovers have been tagged
A hotline, a wanted add
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need
I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need
I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need
I, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need this
I, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
