Hearts that are brought together by the ache of despair are never estranged by the tinsel and bliss of gaiety, for the bonds of sorrow are stronger than the ties of joy and happiness.

The love that cleanses its eyes with its tears remains pure, beautiful and immorta.

Love can take many paths, intensity on many levels, .........its still LOVE is it not???????????

Absolutley beautiful and rings of such truth....I have to read this book.

Regardless of whether we talk of romantic love, or love for a friend, or children, or love for humankind in general... there are different paths to love, and different ways of love.

Even if the egocentric love is the lowest of all, it is still love.
If selfless or unconditional love is, on the same imaginary scale, the highest love of all, then that doesn't make all other ways to love nil.

Nicely summed up Sabrina. This obscure and not easily defined topic took many turns but came to a beautiful conclusion.

Beauty is a mystery that our spirits comprehend, in which they rejoice,and under the influence of which they grow. As for our thoughts, they stand before it perplexed, attempting to define and to incarnate it in words, but they cannot. It is a torrent hidden from the eye, surging from the feelings of the beholder and the reality of the one beheld.

True beauty lies in the rays that emanate from the body of holies deep within the soul and shine beyond the body, just as life grows from the depths of a kernel, whereby a flower acquires colour and fragrance. It lies in the complete mutual understanding between a man and a woman that is achieved in the wink of an eye.

In a split second, it engenders a desire more sublime than any other, a spiritual attachment that we call love

This is from page 23 'Broken Wings' by Kahlil Gibran.

This guy lived 1813/1931 and wrote from his own experiences!

Kris.....its a wonderful read, and im going to shut up about it now in case i go overboard about it!

Gibran of Love

Postby mirjana » Sat Aug 07, 2010 4:23 pm

I haven´t read "Broken Wings" but I read "The Prophet" which is also wonderful book.

Here are Gibran´s words of love from this book:

Then said Almitra, "Speak to us of Love."

And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them.
And with a great voice he said:
When love beckons to you follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.
All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.
But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.
When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Love is real, real is love,
Love is feeling, feeling love,
Love is wanting to be loved.
Love is touch, touch is love,
Love is reaching, reaching love,
Love is asking to be loved.
Love is you,
You and me,
Love is knowing,
We can be.
Love is free, free is love,
Love is living, living love,
Love is needing to be loved

I can explain my own perspective on "love" quite simply. It is interchangeable with the word "energy." Every description I can think of that defines energy, can also define love.

See... I can write without rambling! ;0)

Over used and Over defined word, that’s Love.

What we assume as true love are the ones that grow out of our emotions, egos, instincts, desires and passion. Everything from Mothers love, love for our family, friends and relations were all there in us before we ever thought about it. Its nature’s way of keeping this system running, not anything we can claim as ours. We consider mothers love as the most revered one. But even that is infact nature's benevolence to the child, to keep the child’s chance of survival intact.

I am not demeaning such love, but just searching for something that’s ever greater and more true. But having said all these, I do believe Man has the amazing capacity to carry love at its highest realms of purity. A love that’s flows beyond boundaries, over every difference we know. One that cannot be tied even by time. They come as :

Devotion to God : a bond even nature bows before.
Kindness : that flows boundless, mends and sooth everything it touches.
Compassion : that embraces every living thing, and engulfs them in warmth and care.
Sacrifice and humility : forces of love that can never be stopped.

… and to have them, I would give everything else.
