Deep calls to deep

Postby Kris » Thu Jan 07, 2010 2:38 am

Sabina,

What a beautiful place here. When I reviewed this web site, one of my favorite Psalms came to mind. It says “Deep calls to deep”. I interpret that line to say that the deep things of God (whomever that may be to you) call to the deep things of man… Both being Deep Spirits.

Psalm 42:7
Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.

I would only change one thing, if you don't mind.

Instead of

"The deep things of God (whomever that may be to you) call to the deep things of man…
Both being Deep Spirits.
"

how about:

"The deep things of God (whomever that may be to you) call to the deep things of humans
Both being Deep Spirits.
"

I know that "man" refers to "mankind", hence including women as well, but I also believe that the particular choice of words is a leftover of a patriarch system, and we have the power to change it to be a more universal system. So rather than "man" or "mankind", we could say "human" and "humankind". What do you think?

Sabina

PS: I just checked to see what the synonyms are for "humankind" and tellurian is one of them! So, I've learned a new word, and thought I should share. :)

tellurian
–adjective
1. of or characteristic of the earth or its inhabitants; terrestrial.
–noun
2. an inhabitant of the earth.

tellurian - Origin & history
"pertaining to the earth," 1846, from L. tellus (gen. telluris) "earth" + -ian
"Whether You believe you can, or you can't, you are right."

Hi Kris, hi Sabina,

Great verse Kris and so much true. It is the Universal Law of Attraction that people talk of so much. After the movie What The Bleep Do We Know and The Secret, this Law came into the center of interests. And it has been all the time here between us expressed in this beautiful Psalm. Connecting this Psalm with the feeling you have about this place here has warmed my heart.
By the way, Psalms are for me one of the most beautiful parts of the Bible, always inspiring.
And as a chain of associations, the next one came to my mind after Sabina mentioned this word change. This brought the topic Lost generation- A Must see from the Witticism forum, which is somehow (although in whole different way) about words and the beauty of their influence.
One of our great tools with which we can influence our mind and direct changes.
