Brilliant TV Ads

Postby Alexander » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:43 pm

TV advertisements is something that we all more or less dislike, either because of their content, the false way they portray life, the flashy screens and annoying sound effects or simply because most of the time they are a waste of our time. But one in a million a very good advertisement, an advertisement that not only serves its practical purpose, but also does it in a very profound and artistic way that leaves those who watch it speechless, is produced.

I never watch TV (actually I don't own one), but today I happened to stumble upon such a TV advertisement on the internet and thought of posting it here:

I was amazed at how such a simple message was delivered in such an artistic way producing a transcending result that can reach the core of your heart. Truly beautiful!

Love,
Alexander

Alexander,

I agree completely. I used to have a section dedicated to such advertisements on my personal site, but then removed it, due to over-saturation with ads in general. Brilliant and meaningful ads are rare...

One of my all time favorite ads is "Indian Spirits":

"Whether You believe you can, or you can't, you are right."

That was beautiful, Sabina! Although, I' ve never really liked Pachelbel's "Canon in D", the message was beautiful and transcended the practical purpose of the advertisement. The pianist's cruel behaviour reminded me of the following quotes:

"A display of specialized skill does not signify possession of spiritual capacity. Cleverness is not a substitute for true character."

"Ambition is dangerous until it is fully socialized. You have not truly acquired any virtue until your acts make you worthy of it."

Very nice associations Alexander. [El]

As one who loves Pachelbel's Canon, I must say I am curious. Why have you never liked it?

By the way, thank you for opening this topic... It was a great idea! Such beautiful ads do deserve a place here, and are not, nor can they ever be confused with the mass-produced junk.

Well, it reminds me of the music by Yanni, which I can't say I am a big fan of: consonant harmonies, pleasant and simple, but a kind of simplicity that to me lacks content.

You are welcome. I am currently in the search of more such beautiful TV ads, but sadly there are not many to be found.

Love,

I came across an ad just now... a new campaign for Lotto, via DDB New Zealand.

I wouldn't say that it is brilliant, but it is interesting. Also, I think the dog is a better actor than the man at the beginning.
So, what do you think?

Ok, this next one is a gem! I love it for its message.
