Benefits of Pizhichil

Postby Gosling » Wed Oct 05, 2011 11:19 am

Ayurveda offers different kinds of therapies and pizhichil is one of them. This is a rejuvenating treatment, offered by many Ayurvedic institutions in Kerala. If you are looking for such a soothing therapy, you can go to any ayurvedic resort hospital and undergo pizhichil after consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner.

This treatment mainly involves application of lukewarm herbal oil all over the body of the patient. Pizhichil is the Malayalam word for `squeezing’ and as the name indicates it is a treatment in which warm medicated oil is squeezed over the body of the patient from a cloth piece. There will be two or more masseurs who will rhythmically squeeze the oil to the patient’s body and at the same time massage him/ her in a scientific way.

This therapy continues for about one hour for a period of one or three weeks, depending on the prescription of the Ayurvedic practitioner. People suffering from rheumatic diseases such as arthritis, paralysis etc can benefit from this treatment. It is also used while treating general weaknesses. This treatment, which carries a combination of oil massage and heat treatment, was the privilege of the Kings during olden days, and you will surely feel royal and proud, once you undergo the treatment.

Hi Gosling,
Welcome to DS. =0)
Pizhichil sounds very interesting as word and that what it describes would be great to experience.
As I live in Europe, I used to apply some other herbal oil treatments and it has always been beneficial. As I personally admire Ayurvedic treatments, I can imagine that this must be a very beneficial treatment.
