A Tribute to John Barry

Postby Sabina » Mon Feb 28, 2011 6:54 am

Only tonight I found out that the English film score composer John Barry has recently died. A little less than a month ago, on January 30th 2011.

[size=85]John Barry Pendergast
3 November 1933 - 30 January 2011

He was the first soundtrack composer I knew by name and, along with Ennio Morricone, indubitably the one through whom I got to know and love this music genre.
I was very sad to hear of his death. He has left us with many gifts... Many will know him for the 11 James Bond soundtracks he composed, but none of them are among my favorites. So in memorial of John Barry, here are 3 of the many musical pieces I will remember him by.

"Have you got a story for me?" from the "Out of Africa" soundtrack.... beautiful!

A mix from "Swept from the sea"...

"Farewell, end title" from "Dances with Wolves"

Dear Sabina,
Thank you for putting this tribute and attracting our attention toward his genius.
I discovered that yesterday by Oscar nomination and was very sad too.
Out of Africa is my most favorite movie and one of reasons is the beautiful harmony between the story and music. Actually I love all three movies and it is obvious that his music is one of reasons.
I admire the way how you reacted to the news of his death.
